Daze 32: Yeast

So we made bread using yeast this week. Cinnamon rolls too. It reminded me of Jesus in Mark 7 and what He said about the yeast of the Pharisees and Herod. So today, just some reflective thoughts from my heart on yeast.

Yeast
Yeast rises and fills the dough and
            That soon doubles in size.
Yeast is best when controlled,
            With its dough pounded down.
The pounding makes it rise again.
It becomes even larger and fuller.
Then, finally baked, it stops rising,
            And receives the applause of
Those who see and enjoy the
                                   Work it has done.

JESUS said: Be careful and watch out for
            The yeast of the Pharisees,
            The yeast of Herod,
The yeast of heart and soul.

The yeast of the Pharisees
Is the way that wants to look and sound good.
Is the way of arrogance and pride.
Is the way the judges and condemns others.
Is the way of thinking you know it all.

The yeast of Herod
Is the way of the celebrity culture,
Is the way of  total selfishness and blindness,
Is the way of think you’re better than all others.
Is the way of mind-games and control.

The yeast of the heart
Can rot your heart from the inside out,
Can make you immune to the hearts of others,
Can turn you to building only your own kingdom,
Can leave you empty and destitute with a heart
                        Full of ashes and dust,
Full of unfulfilled dreams and desires,
Full of hope for the only thing that will help you.
                                    JESUS.

The yeast of God’s Spirit
Can be the yeast in my life and days
That makes my heart rise to Father,
The kneads me til I’m in His image
That swirls me round and round,
That mixes me with other flours and flavors.
God's yeast is the power of my heart.
