Today I turn 75 at 6:12 tonight (7:12) Chicago time where I was born. It's the same day as Hitler committed suicide. My take? Something good came into the world when something evil left. I think that's the way we must look at the Corona scene. Look for the good things that have come about instead of looking at the hard things. Here's just a few:
Social distancing? I think it's made us realize how much we need each other, and all the hugs we exchange so casually. These are now much more prized and valuable possessions.
Working at home? This has made us realize how much we CAN work at home. It also gives us more time together as a family. Maybe this will become the trend of the future!
Schooling at home? It started out with us playing Catan at home. They loved the original game so much we had to buy Catan Seafarers. Then it came about that the three grandsons came an hour earlier to do homework with us. Bill and I love the extra time it gives us with the boys. It's been such a good time building relationships in new ways. These are memories that will last a lifetime.
Crazy stock market and falling retirement funds? Yes, it is happening. But my hope is not in them, but in the God who provides our every need. No matter what happens in our financial or physical world, the love of God who created the universe, this world, and us will never abandon or leave us. He truly does work things together to fit His good purposes. I choose to trust Him and wait to see how He works it all out.
Headlines filled with death and dread? I stopped reading these long ago and choose to focus on the good things that are happening. I read the health directions for how we are to live, but everything else changes day by day. Why focus on those details when there's so much good to choose! Please join me!
