Daze 20: Pandmic Exposed: Poem 1

Instead of worry, I am taking courage that God is in this all and is good. It's been a week of celebrations. This morning we Zoom-attended the funeral of a good friend from Oklahoma, a dear lady who loved the Words of Jesus and loved people deeply. So her heritage to family and friends: words of love and words of life.

This week I've also listened to the words of birthday singing, celebrating two birthdays. Our son, Jonathan, turned 50 and we had a surprise Zoom party for him. It was great fun to surprise him with so many friends from his life, including Steve and Karen Lynip; Steve was the doctor that helped deliver Jonathan that day in Santa Barbara, 50 years ago. The day before Jonathan's birthday was our son-in-law Jack's birthday, so I cooked lasagna, cake and made ice cream for him. Jenny brought veggies and three much-loved boys.

Then, it seems like this week has also brought more words and news of more Corona cases, and more deaths. Hopefully we've peaked. So many reports, I've stopped listening to them and just doing what's most important--staying home. If I go out into public (rarely), Bill and I wear masks and gloves. So far our health has been good and we are grateful to God for His protection.

Today's first poem chronicles my daily choices in what words my heart listens to. In the next posting, Searching for Perfect Peace: Poem 2, there's another one written many years ago in the midst of great struggles.

Choosing Which Words to Listen To

Daily there is more news,
To draw my heart to fear.
Daily draw me to Your Word,
            Open up my listening ear.

Daily there is good news,
            From Your Words of Life
Daily let me listen and
            Free my heart from strife.

I wait for you to end this
            Time of mixed-up news.
Instead I choose to focus,
On You and Your good views.

So no clouds of Corona
            Can bring skies of discontent
My heart is safe in Jesus,
Under Him I’ll pitch my tent.
